Every year the streets of Budapest become a party. Hundreds of people from all around the world come to this beautiful city to spend the funniest days of their lives. They come to one of the most renowned festivals in Europe, Sziget Festival. It was created as a festival for students in 1993. After some financial ups and downs in the firsts editions, currently is one of the largest festivals in Europe.
The festival has been the winner two times the prize for the best festival in Europe (2011-2014). Today its program includes up to 1000 shows during the one-week festival.
The festival is held on the island of Óbuda. 1000 events and concerts take place on the 108 hectares that comprise the island. It’s possible to buy passes of one day, three, five or seven with different prices each.
If you want, you can take your own tent or rent a little house to the organizers and live like the king of the festival! You will experiment with the environment of fraternity and freedom. They try to raise awareness about climate change by promoting an eco-friendly mentality and respect for the LGTBI community.
The high festive spirit of the participants mixed with alcohol may cause that some of them have the audacity to swim in the waters of the Danube River. It is very important to know that since the island is surrounded by the Danube, you must be aware that this river is not suitable for swim and is one of the most dangerous in the world because of its strong and unpredictable currents. For your own good, do not go swimming in the river!

Sparty is a world apart from the parties. It’s a great party at the hot thermal baths! This party takes place in the Széchényi bath. Imagine spending a night in one of the most incredible parties, surrounded by lights, DJs and the heat of the hot springs of Széchenyi!
It sounds totally crazy and so attractive at the same time! (at least that sounds to me!). In summer, it is very common to see people coming back home (or to their hostel/hotel) from a party on Sunday morning. You can guess because of their attire, (a bathing suit and a single sandal and the other lost ) that they spent a really crazy night perhaps, in SPARTY.
Sparty was born in 1994 and since then, every Saturday from February to December, the lights of Szechenyi are turned on to start the party with dance electronic music. The winter months move to Rudas bath to continue the party.
Every two years in August and/or December, a “Cine trip” event is held, which makes it more exciting … and a little more expensive.
Where to buy the tickets
It is important that you know that Sparty tickets and tickets for Szechenyi Bath daily normal bath are completely different. To access the party, you have to buy a different ticket, the tickets are completely different. Be careful not to buy a ticket to szechényi for the day by accident. The cost of the ticket is € 50 or 15,000 FT. * 2019
Within Sparty, you can pay with a credit card and cash, but you can also buy a card prepaid where you deposit the money you want to consume without having to take your money with you and lose it in the pools.
These prepaid cards have a strap or ribbon that you can attach to your neck and not lose it. It is important that once the party is over you can request a refund of the remaining money on your card. You must do it in a timely manner before closing.
You can buy alcoholic beers and cocktails sold inside, and it is forbidden to bring your own alcohol.
Important, I highly recommend booking your tickets in advance! There is a number of tickets sold mostly online and a small percentage of the remaining can be purchased directly at the spa.
The affiliated hostels can sell the tickets, but it is important that you book them on time because of the entire network of hostels, they reserve almost always from the same provider so that the tickets are over! (true fact) Online tickets can only be purchased until 8:00 p.m. on the Saturday of each party.
Tickets sold at the door are sold starting at 10:30 PM. They cost 20,000 HUF and include the entrance and access to an individual locker to store your belongings.
Another excellent option to spend a night of luxury is a cruise party on the Danube in a boat that takes you for a 2 to 3 hour trip along the river, passing through the most emblematic buildings of the city located at the foot of Danube and take a super picture with Parliament behind you as a stage!
There are several boat parties every week and several times a week, each one depending on the size of the boat and its capacity. There are also parties with themed tours such as Halloween, New Year’s Eve party or San Esteban day to enjoy the fireworks in the river. Simply spectacular!
You have several options to choose from and not stay with the desire to spend a night in an atmosphere of party lovers from all over the world. At the end of the cruise, the staff takes you to continue the party in the best clubs in the city.
